Nimiq is a blockchain designed with simplicity in mind. Nimiq aims to be the best performing and easiest to use decentralized payment protocol and ecosystem. This project combines advanced blockchain research and web technology. Nimiq is web-based and requires no software installation, and the Nano client can be quickly synchronized within seconds.
Nimiq was built from the ground up to address and break down the barriers to entry that hinder mainstream adoption of blockchain technology. Nimiq will always remain open source and community driven, and build upon supporting good causes in the future. As for the name, "Nimiq is an Inuit word for an object or force that binds things together."
Nimiq is designed to be simple and accessible to the masses
Thanks to the mini blockchain scheme, the blockchain data is as small as less than 1MB, and it only takes a few seconds to synchronize with any device.
Written in the JavaScript language, the native language of the web. Therefore no additional software needs to be installed.
The Nimiq protocol implements off-chain transactions, relying on it, transactions can be completed instantly.
Ecosystem
Rely on the ecosystem enabled by this protocol to realize our vision of ubiquitous simplicity and mass adoption.
A miner interface that anyone can use, on any browser on any device;
A browser wallet made easier to use than other web wallets;
A global, web-based A P2P exchange that makes exchanging Nimiqs coins and local currencies easy, fast and cheap.
Endless Possibilities
The Nimiq Network enables the developer community to easily integrate open source npm packages into a variety of applications, allowing them to create groundbreaking applications.
Some cases include:
1. Web administrators can easily embed the light client of the Nimiq network into their web pages, and content providers can monetize the time users spend on their sites, because in While browsing content, users can mine Nimiq coins using unused processor power on their devices.
2. Using Nimiq's blockchain protocol as the backbone of its database integrity, decentralized peer-to-peer network services such as Facebook, Twitter, etc.
3. Easily implement document timestamps, and the usability improvement is significantly higher than other blockchains.
Nimiq has three sets of clients Full, Light, and Nano, and the designed application scenarios correspond to servers, desktop browsers, and mobile browsers respectively. Of course, it is not limited to these scenarios, the browser can also run the Full client, and the server can also run the Nano client. The three sets of clients can run in all current mainstream browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and even the built-in browser of WeChat.
Among them, the Full client needs to synchronize all the blockchain data, similar to the Bitcoin and Ethereum clients, and the nodes run by the Full client are also called backbone nodes, which can complete queries, mining, and transfers function.
The Light client needs to synchronize part of the blockchain data, relying on the compression of the block data by the backbone node. The positioning of the Light client is to lower the threshold for ordinary users to participate in mining. Opening a browser can realize mining and transfer. The Demo on the Nimiq official website runs the Light client.
The Nano client is prepared for payment in the mobile browser, and only needs to synchronize data less than 1MB to transfer money.
